Measure the sleeping space
Observe the shape your dog uses when resting: curled up, stretched out, or leaning against an edge. Use the maker’s measurement guide and compare usable sleeping space rather than only the outside dimensions. Bolsters can reduce the interior area. Mark the proposed footprint on your floor so you can see whether it blocks a door or a walking route.
Read the care details
Check whether the cover is removable, whether it can go in your washing machine, and whether the inner cushion has separate care requirements. “Washable” may refer to only one component. Note the drying instructions and think about where the dog will rest while the cover is being cleaned. A replacement cover is useful only if it fits the exact model.
Consider access and placement
An elevated cot, a flat mat, and a bolstered bed have different entry shapes. If mobility or pain is a concern, discuss suitable support with your veterinarian instead of relying on a product’s orthopedic wording. Check the manufacturer’s intended indoor or outdoor use and any weight limits.
Compare total ownership
Record dimensions, cleaning steps, replacement-part availability, and the retailer’s return conditions. A bed’s apparent bargain price can matter less than whether you can maintain it.
